There are a variety of Stirling Engines, they are all simple
external combustion heat engines that utilize a gas as a
working fluid and a heat sources to produce work that drives a
crankshaft. I will only cover one type, the Beta Stirling
Engine, though it is not the original version it is one of the
simplest. Once you understand one version of this heat engine,
the others can be understood rather easily as they all follow
the same cycle.
