Schooling

einstein schoolingAlbert Einstein attended elementary school at the Luitpold Gymnasium in Munich.
While attempting to finish high school, his father moved his family and business to
Milan, Italy.  Einstein was instructed to stay there, but he quietly dropped out and
followed his family not long after.  His father convinced him to apply at the Zurich
Polytechnic school.

Surprisingly, Einstein failed to meet the minimum admission requirements, lacking
in biology, chemistry, and French.  However, he stunned the examiners with his
mastery in Math and Physics, so they encouraged him to finish his diploma at a
nearby high school and then apply again.

Einstein did indeed get his diploma and pass the entrance exam for Zurich Polytechnic
on his second try.  He then pursued a four year Math and Physics teaching degree
in Zurich, which he obtained in 1900.  This is also where he met his future wife, Mileva
Maric.

It has been said that Einstein wasn't an especially outstanding student, graduating 4th
out of the 5 in his class.  Yet this obviously doesn't take into account the learning
and studying that he had been doing on his own, outside of class.  After publishing some
papers he eventually received his Ph.D. from the University of Zurich.
