Professor K B Hasselberg, a member of the selection committee for the Nobel Prize, made
this remarkable statement: 'I am also of the opinion that this choice... is the best of
all which have been made to this date. Our earlier laureates.. are indeed men of eminent
scientific merits, but for my part I must consider the work of Michelson as more
fundamental and also by far more delicate...'
