What are wind turbines?
Wind turbines are very larges structures usually made up of three propeller-like blades. These blades spin as wind goes by and this spin generates electricity by harnessing the wind. The blades are located around a rotor and this rotor is connected to the main spin shaft which is made up of many parts itself.
The purpose of a wind turbine is to convert the kinetic energy from the wind into electricity that can be used to power anything that requires electricity. It is best to place wind turbines in areas with a high amounts of wind as they have a minimum needed in order to start rotating. Common equations used by wind turbines:
KE= ½ MV²- converting kinetic energy into electricity M = ρAV - mass of the air cylinder Putting those together gives KE= ½ ρAV³ |
