Cost of a wind turbine
Wind turbines used to power a home, just under 100 kW, roughly cost about $3000 - $8000 per kW. So say you have a wind turbine of 10 kW, it would cost about $50000 - $80000 or more to build.
For commercial purposes (large scale wind turbines on a wind farm) it would cost around $1 - 2 million per MW. Most of these commercial wind turbines are 2 MW so it could cost around $2 - 4 million. The cost could be more (or less) though depending on how many turbines you buy, the construction, the installation, the permits, etc.. You may be asking, after I build this wind turbine, how much will I be saving a month in electricity bills? The average electricity rate in Alaska is $0.175 per kWh. So then lets say the wind turbine works at half capacity which is about 650 kWh a month. If we multiply those together, we end up saving $113.75 a month. |
