Examples of Ground Source Heat Exchange Systems

Here are a few examples of ground source heat exchange systems:
This first system (shown on the left) uses a vertical bore hole in which a u-shaped loop, or a coaxial loop, is placed. This pipe will act as a heat sink in the summer when the house needs to be cooled; allowing heat to dissipate into the ground.  And, in the winter when the house needs to be heated, the same coil can be used to extract heat from the ground.  The second system (shown on the right) uses a horizontal loop of coiled flexible pipe buried in the ground.  This accomplishes the same as the vertical loop, but must be installed below the frost line to be effective.
