Laminar Flow and Becoming Turbulent

Laminar flow, apart of fluid dynamics, is “characterized by fluid particles following smooth paths in layers” with no or little mixing. (Laminar Flow)

The laminar flow becomes turbulent if the velocity of a fluid increases above a critical velocity. There is a linear relationship between pressure gradient and flow, which “becomes invalid because additional local pressure differences are caused by turbulences” (Desai)
