Components of Blood

  • Platelets- colorless, small cell fragments that prevent bleeding

  • White blood cells- help body fight of infections and diseases

  • Red blood cells- red cells which deliver oxygen; 40% of blood volume

  • Plasma- yellowish liquid which carries proteins in the body; 55% of blood volume

Without red blood cells, the body wouldn’t function because they are responsible for delerving the oxygen to all around the body from the lungs

The total blood mass is ≈7% of the total body mass.

For an average person of a mass; m= 65 kg, ⇒ mblood ≈ 4.5 kg

Blood Density: Pblood = 1.04 x 103 kg/m3

⇒ Vblood ≈4.4 L
