how skate skiing works

Skate skiing is a another form of cross country skiing that is quite different from classic. Its movements are mostly comprised of skating motions similar to roller blading or ice skating, pushing off of one ski and shifting the skier's weight onto the other and gliding. One of the key differences is that the skier never has to stop the motion of their skis to push off the snow. Because of this, the ski never has to overcome static friction with the snow. The only resistance comes from the air and the kinetic friction with the snow, which is usually considerably smaller than its static counterpart.
