The Physics Behind Their Designs
Parachuting Example

With the differences and the history behind these parachute designs, the overall explanation to how they work is in the physics. Having a common design, these parachutes accomplish their task of bringing its user down to the ground safely as possible, if used correctly. Though the example above is not static-line parachuting, the physics work the same either way. For instance, as the user free falls through the sky, the constant acceleration of gravity is greater than the air resistance attempting to slow down the user. Once their parachute is deployed, the amount of air resistance increases drastically due to the surface area generated by the parachute, causing the user to descent slowly to the ground. This results in the successful deployment of a parachute and safe landing of the user.
