How can it do that? For each person, inspiration may come
from something different. For me, it comes from the structural
aesthetics that are utilitarian and well finished.
Like the man pictured in this image, I too would get lost
looking at the craftsmanship that it required to make this
blacksmith's work shop. The hammer beams in this picture may
be best described as rustic yet refined.
Yet as the image demonstrates below, sometimes rustic can be
immensely elegant.
This begs the question, who are the builders and how do they
know that the structure will stand the test of time as so many
buildings from the 1800's have proven that they can?
The answer can be summed up in one science, physics and
physicists. These physicists more than likely only knew simple
logical statements about gravity and forces. These were known
by tradition, experiment, and their work. The result, however,
was spectacular, and we now have timber framed trusses and
homes as the result.
