In 1730, Franklin had a son to an unknown woman who he named William. After this, he married a woman named Deborah Read on September 1, 1730. They had two children of their own, Francis Folger and Sarah. During his life, Franklin was known by many people as an inventor.



Franklin was the founder of the American Philosophical Society in 1743. This society was used by people to discuss their scientific discoveries. During his leisure study times, Franklin would work with his own scientific interests which included the field of electricity. He created many different important inventions during his lifetime. The most recognizable of these are described on the next two pages.
