• Born on November 7, 1878 in Vienna Leopoldstadt.
• Born into a Jewish family of 8 children
• Girls, during this time, were only enrolled in school till the age of 14. But Meitner's parents made sure she received the same education as her brothers.  She was enrolled in private school.
• Second woman to acquire a doctoral degree in physics from the University of Vienna
• Began her research in nuclear physics at the University of Berlin in 1926
• Albert Einstein said she was the "German Marie Curie"
