  Introduction

The intent of this web page is to examine the relationship between photovoltaics and electromagnetism.  As most people know, photovoltaics are devices which can extract energy from ordinary sunlight; and ordinary sunlight happens to be a specific type of electromagnetic radiation.  And electromagnetic radiation is an oscillatory propagation of perpendicular magnetic and electric fields; with a lot of interesting physics along the way.

We shall investigate the aforementioned items beginning with electromagnetism and build our way up to a general understanding of how it is that photons emitted 150 million km away in space can power your pocket calculator here on Earth.  As well as briefly discuss the future of solar power in which those same photons may directly power your home, your car, and your life in general.

The links along the left hand side of the page will direct you to the various sections comprising this discussion.  Feel free to skip ahead, reread, or simply click the hands below to follow along.  So what exactly is electromagnetism?
