The right tires are a
must-have for monster trucks because traction is
key. These tires must be 66inx43inx25in. Many
teams hand cut their tires in order to cut back
on weight and customize the tread. They are kept
at very low pressures, between 12 and 20 psi
depending on the racing surface. This way, the
weight of the truck can be spread out over a
larger area in order to get more traction. With
such massive tires, the engine must supply a
huge amount of torque in order to rotate them.
This isn’t the only issue the tires cause. Being
so large and at a low pressure, they become
extremely bouncy. This causes the trucks to
bounce around uncontrollably which is exciting
to watch, but difficult to drive because of they
become unpredictable.
