The Physics Underlying Harmony

Introduction

What Is Harmony?

Harmony, in its musical sense, is the relationship between different notes in a piece of music.  Harmony is one of the major aspects of a music, and can be used to create a sense of movement, tension, or just simply to add interest to a musical piece.  Although different styles and cultures use harmony very differently, the basics of what notes work well together is actually based in the physics of how sound waves work.  My goal is to give the reader a very basic understanding of how sound works, and how harmony can result from some simple math and physics.
