Pros & Cons
This is a list of some of the advantages and disadvantages
of maglev trains
Advantages:
- Maglevs don't have moving parts as do conventional trains so wear and tear is minimal. So the maintenance cost is significantly less.
- There is no contact between train and track, so the only resistance is air resistance which does not inhibit the maglev from reaching very high speeds.
- Since they don't have wheels there is very little noise from a maglev
- Maglevs do not rely on internal combustion engines so they are more eco friendly.
- They are much much much less likely to be derailed by the smallest thing.
Disadvantages:
- The cost to implement maglev trains is very high
- Either conventional train tracks need to be replaced
with maglev guideways, or a whole new system has to be
created
