Brief History of Table Tennis
Table
Tennis or "Ping Pong" was developed in England in the late
19 th Century, when upper
class families began using their dinner tables as
miniature tennis courts. Originally the game was called
many names such as "Wiff Waff' , gossamer and "flim flam".
Eventually the term "ping-pong" was settled upon and
sold to the Parker Brothers ("History of Table Tennis").
This sale would forever change the game we all know and
love. The game evolved just before the world war. Players
began using spherical balls and rackets to play. The
increased game spread throughout Europe. During the war
English officers posted in various Asian Countries
introduced the game to the Asians.
