Title: Representing Rotations Using Quaternions Abstract: If you want to represent a rotation of three dimensional space, you might be tempted to use a rotation matrix parameterized in terms of Euler angles. This works, mostly, but there is a much better way. In this talk we show how quaternion technology can be applied to give an elegant, robust approach to this task. As a bonus, we'll see that the set of all rotations of space has a shape: it’s a sphere in four dimensions with antipodal endpoints glued together. The presentation will use the language of so-called Clifford algebras, and may be new to those who have seen some of these ideas before. |
