Competitions
According to the poll of what game to hold more competitions for on http://www.bridgebuilder-game.com/ 70.2% voted for the original Bridge Builder game, 15.5% voted for Pontifex II/Bridge Construction Set, and 5.8% voted for Pontifex I.
There used to be a lot of activity and regular competitions held on the site (usually with a sponsored prize), but the community has since died. I expect a surge in involvement if Chronic Logic ever releases a new bridge building game.
An example of the rules to a contest:
"For NORMAL and HARD bridges:
Submissions were judged in normal, hard, and artistic categories. Everyone was given a default map and had to design a bridge within the specifications. Winners were given a reword on the site and a prize by a sponsor.

An example of the rules to a contest:
"For NORMAL and HARD bridges:
- The bridge must work without breaking any links
- The bridge must work (the 'test passed' message must appear) with 0 sec delay (press: simulate | pause | run test | pause).
- Bridge links may NOT touch/penetrate the level terrain (i.e. only touch the ground at the anchor points) throughout the complete simulation (all phases).
- The ships may NOT touch any bridge material (every pixel counts!).
- The decks MAY curve (you don't have to build them horizontal).
- Trains MAY go through/touch bridge material.
- Everything - besides editing the level - is allowed.
- The bridge must work (the 'test passed' message must appear) with a delay specified by the architect (that means: it's sufficient, if the bridge works reliably with e.g. 17 seconds but not with any other delay).
- Editing the level is strictly prohibited.
- You may NOT exploit bugs or flaws in the game engine (if you find any, which I doubt you will)." (http://www.bridgebuilder-game.com/)
