Background

I developed this website as a requirement for Physics 212 at University of Alaska Fairbanks. Here I will explain how a 120 volt DC electrical system propels my 1986 Toyota Pickup truck.

Why an electric truck?

This project began in April 2005, when I saw an advertisement for a free 4x4 truck in the newspaper. At the time I was reading Michael Brown's book called Convert It! and I decided that I wanted to convert either a 4x4 or an AWD vehicle. Michael Brown's company ElectroAuto has a long list of vehicle models with available plans for making adaptor plates. Since the Toyota Truck was on the list, I went out and got the free truck. I got it retitled and obtained seasonal license tags for it. When I went over to the emissions inspection station, I asked how an electric vehicle would be inspected. At the time, they told me to bring my project in when it was completed.

Purpose

The purpose of this website is to explain the electrical setup of my truck. Last semester, I focused on the mechanical parts, and the Force required to move the truck. I have a link to that site here.
