Einsteins final dream was to create a unified field theory that combined quantum mechanics and general relatvivty. This solution eluded him and it eludes us still. New theories are emerging but are born out of beautifully created mathematics, but they cannot be tested. The theory is called string theory, and it cannot be tested because it calls for strings that are infintesimly small. Hopefully we find a theory one day and accomplish Einstein's dream.
