Drifting is a common term these days
for when your vehicle slides around a corner because you
took the corner going too fast and the vehicles rear end
“slips” out from behind you. In other words you over
steered as you drove around the corner. Many of you who
live in places in snow have experienced this first hand.
Drifting was introduced in the 20th century when people
first started racing cars. It was more of a
technique that the drivers used to turn sharp corners
faster.
A lot of people also
associate drifting with the country of Japan.
According to driftingstreet.com, “The history of drifting
as we know it today goes way back to the 1960’s to the
winding mountain roads of Japan. Back then a group of
racers called the Rolling Zoku raced on the twisty
mountain roads of Japan trying to set record times between
point A and B.” Nowadays it is world renown and there are
even competitions to see who the best is at drifting their
vehicle. A lot of other motor sports like rally car
driving incorporate drifting into their racing tactics as
well.
