INTRODUCTION: What is Base Jumping? Why do people do it?

For those adrenaline junkies, thrill seekers, and people willing to push the boundaries of what they are capable of, base jumping might be of interest.  Although a bit of an expensive hobby to get into, those who do say it is worth the investment.  BASE Jumping is sometimes spelled as an acronym which stands for; Buildings, Antennas, Spans, and Earth.  A bridge is an example of a "Span" and a cliff or a mountain's summit is an example of  "Earth", however the apparatuses in which jumpers are using is being pushed to the limit all the time.  The most recent jump that changed the sport was performed by an Austrian sky diver Felix Baumgartner, who broke the sound barrier on his decent of 39 kilometers.  This jump was sponsored by Red Bull, a company that now has a lot of influence in extreme sports, and was performed from a helium balloon in the stratosphere.
