James Clerk
Maxwell was born June 13, 1831 in Edinburgh. At the age of 13, he won
mathematical honors and various other prizes at Edinburgh Academy which
was just the beginning of the greatness that he would produce. At 16,
he began taking classes at Edinburgh University and produced two papers
in his undergraduate studies. After finishing at Edinburgh, he attended
Cambridge and then was asked to teach at Aberdeen University at the age
of 25.
In 1857, he met his future wife whom he
married a year later. In 1860, he began working at King's College
London and this is where Maxwell made most of his progress in coming up
with the theory of electromagnetism. In 1865 he resigned his seat at
King's College and returned to his childhood home with his wife.
Maxwell died November 5, 1879 at the age of 48.
