Rules of Basketball

There is two teams each with five players on the court playing against each other. Each team is trying to score on one another by shooting a basketball into a hoop that is ten feet in the air. The game is played on a court that is rectangular and has a hoop on each end. There is a midcourt line, three-point line, freethrow line, and lane. Each team has a time limit for which they have to cross the half court line after inbounding it on there half. It changes for different levels of play. Once they pass half they cant go back over half the other way either or they will turn the ball over to the other team.

You get three points for making a shot from behind the three-point line and you get two points from anywhere inside the three-point line. You have a certain time limit for each quarter and/or half depending on the level of play you are playing at. Which ever team scores more then the other one when the time runs out is the winner.

There is also fouls that can be called during gameplay for hitting an oppenent when shooting the ball or hitting them when dribbling or just for talking back to refs. If you get fouled then your team gets to take the ball out of bounds unless it is a shooting foul. Then you get to shoot foul shots.

The next is all the violations that can be called on a player when playing. They are traveling which is running with the ball without dribbling. The next is carrying the ball which is putting your hand underneath the ball when dribbling. Another is double dribble which is dribbling again after picking up your dribble. Another is goaltending which is hitting a ball out of the basket after it is about to go in above the cylinder. Then last is time violations which is not getting the ball inbouded in a certain ammount of time or taking to long to shoot the ball.

Finally is the player positions which include point gaurd, shooting gaurd, small forward, power forward, and center. The point gaurd handles the ball most of the time and does most of the dribbling and passing. The shooting gaurd just mainly shoots the ball and passes. The small forward is usually athletic and takes the ball to the basket a lot and shoots and passes. The power forward is a big man that plays in the post and gets rebounds and what not. Then comes the center who is supposed to get most the rebounds and block shots and make all his shots from underneath the basket.
