Sonoluminescence?
Sonoluminescence occurs when light is produced from sound. This is particularly interesting because the phenomenon is fairly easy to create; however, the scientific community does not know exactly what causes it to happen. I chose sonoluminescence as the topic for my project this semester because I had heard about it previously and was greatly intrigued by the mystery involved in the occurrence. I also found it incredibly interesting that the phenomenon is not confined to a laboratory, as animals have been documented using the technique as a defense mechanism in natural conditions.
