This is my personal favorite section about Batman.  I love his vehicles and everything that they can do to help himFirst I am going to start with the vehicle you see pictured here, the Tumbler.  Believe it or not this vehicle is actually very real and all the stunts you saw in the Dark Knight movie were actually done with this car.  This car is very real and can do everything you saw it do in the movie( for approximately $250,000 per model)This vehicle worked so well in the Batman filming that there actually prototypes of similar vehicles being made by different corporations for military purposes.

Now we get to the Bat which you saw in the Dark Knight as a helicopter type car that is able to fly around the city with out problems.  Although a very cool concept the fact of the matter is the way the Bat was set up would never work.  It would have been like flying a helicopter upside down.  The position of the rotors under the belly would not create a lift to allow the aircraft to hover in place.  Conventional helicopters have rotor blades longer than the body of the aircraft to help create more lift.   The rotors close to the body of the aircraft do not create much lift as they are moving relatively slow compared to the air. Putting the main rotor underneath the belly of the Bat creates stability issues with air circulation.  If the Bat weighed as much as a normal helicopter you would have to have an enormous amount of power to fly(more than any jet or helicopter out there today).
