What are Antlions?

Picture
Short answer: Antlions are  flying insects of the order Myrmeleontidae and named such because their larvae have a pretty cool method for hunting for food, and it's given them quite the reputation for being voracious hunters.

Why It's Interesting

Antlions have a tried and true method of finding the kind of soil they need to begin digging their traps and a unique way of doing so. If there is a way to take a loo at how they do it there is a possibility of using that new information to forward progress in drilling and related operations. The main reason it's interesting is that I loved finding these and watching them as a kid.
