The
Lightsaber
is
well known to virtually everyone in the world. It has a trade
mark look, sounds, and texture (a painful cutting off hands kind of
texture), that can be recognized anywhere.Although, like government, it seems to be run by forces which exist in either a different time or different universe all together.
We have looked at several possibilities of how a Lightsaber could or could not work.
It couldn't be a laser mainly because there would be no way of stopping the beam, thus making it into more of a laser pistol than a sword.
It also could not be plasma, because plasma dissipates too quickly in the air and would form more of a ball of energy than a beam.
A stream of electrons would not work because, it would either have an ungodly number of electrons or the electrons would have to move faster than a speeding photon.
A beam of energy which only works above a specific energy level seems to be our best option overall. Although getting a sustained beam like that using a power source that small would be nothing short of a miracle.
In closing, a Lightsaber a truly amazing weapon. And if you ever build a working model, GET A PATENT!
