ARCHIMEDES' SCREW

Also referred to as “the water snail,” this invention is a simple device to transport water.  It consists of a spiral “screw” inside a cylinder.  By placing the bottom in water and turning it, water is raised to the top.  This idea is used in machines for drainage and irrigation.
