When it comes to adding a
turbocharger or supercharger to a vehicle there are a
couple main reasons as to why this would be a good idea.
The first reason is to race. Many of the race-cars if
not all of them use turbochargers solely because they
are always at a high RPM which means turbo lag won't be
an issue and the fact that a turbo is run off of the
exhaust fumes thus creating no engine power loss while
constantly obtaining boost. However, race cars that use
superchargers have the advantage of the constant boost
no matter what RPM. |

Lastly, many turbochargers and
superchargers are used in engines to help with the
economy. Almost all if not all semi-trucks have big
engines with huge turbos. They use turbos for the same
reason as most race cars which is because there is no
engine power loss to spin the turbine thus giving
maximum amount of power. This helps the economy in the
sense that the semi trucks can have more horsepower
and torque which means they can pull more stuff to
stores or locations faster and more efficiently. Even
though they are diesel motors and have about 2000%
more compression in the piston than regular gas
engines meaning they are unstoppable when it comes to
pulling weight; however diesel motors have extremely
slow acceleration and top speed due to the torque
output and turbos help prevent the issue. |
