Thresher Shark
|
This unwieldy caudal design, on first impression, looks incredibly ridiculous. But with this design, the thresher shark can strike multiple fish at once, rather than chase down one at a time. By chasing a group of fish and whipping its caudal fin towards its prey, it is able to create a shockwave that will stun or kill several fish at once.
The thresher shark has a powerful heterocercal caudal fin with an incredibly long upper lobe— often about half its total length.
