Future Prospects
To further reduce launch costs, a rail that accelerates a spaceship then lets go could replace rockets due to the lack of atmosphere and lower gravity. Escape velocity of the moon is 2.38km/s but let’s say I need 3 km/s for higher margin for error. If the rail accelerates at 30 m/s^2 the track needs to be 150 km. 3 Gs is pretty low, when it’s 8 Gs the track needs to be about 57 km long these aren’t very crazy lengths. Because we have to accelerate the payload and not the fuel it would cost less. A massive telescope would be amazing on the moon especially on the dark moon because of radio silence, lack of atmosphere, and lower gravity. The Telescope could see nearby exoplanets directly.
