Turbines http://www.alstom.com/products-services/product-catalogue/power-generation/renewable-energy/hydro-power/hydro-turbines/pelton-hydro-turbines/ The turbine exists to take energy from the ignited air in order to power the compressor. As the air is forced through the blades of the turbine, they act like a windmill, transferring the internal energy of the air into mechanical energy. This mechanical energy is in the form of work, spinning a central shaft that travels forward to the compressor. For many turbine engines, around half of the air’s energy is removed by the turbine in order to work the compressor. Once this energy has been turned into work, the air is pushed past the turbine and into the engine’s nozzle. Next: Nozzle |
