The compressor, often piggybacking the pump, forces the refrigerant into a smaller space increasing the pressure in that section of the system. This also causes an increase in the fluids temperature. The compression of the refrigerant is what creates most of the heat found in the refrigeration system. After the compressor, the refrigerant passes into the heat exchanging pipes, known as the condenser.
