Discovery
of Balancing a Ball on Finger
The fundamental exercise of
balancing a basketball on a fingertip wasn't actually
invented by a known inventor, but was discovered when
scientists were studying forces.
In particular, a horizontal force when applied to a
spherical object on a particular vertical point in any
coordinate system would allow the spherical object to
balance itself for a limited amount of time.
The use of this knowledge expanded the scientists options of
"what to balance" eventually led to the general populations
natural creativity to use any spherical object.
The options of objects to balance grew when the creation of
a basketball was made by Dr. James Naismith of Canada in
1891.
At some point in time, balancing a
ball on a fingertip was considered a talent. It was used
everywhere, however it became more popular when famous
sports groups such as the well known Harlem
Globetrotters began using this trick and bringing it to
a whole another level.
