Hockey, the Hardest Sport to Master
Hockey is by far the hardest sport to master. Physics is physics there is simply no way around it, but the amount of physics that pertains to hockey is much different compared to any other sport. When breaking down the physics of hockey, it shows that the speed of the game, the collisions and accelerations and applied forces are much greater compared to any other sport.
With hockey being such a fast sport, reaction times are extremely limited. Decisions and movements must be made much faster due to the speed of everything going on around. Other sports are slower compared to hockey making the the time to create a perfect slap shot limited. Not only is it hard to create a slap shot but it is even harder to stop a slap shot.
Goalies may potentially have the hardest job in the game of hockey. Imagine being a goalie standing in front of a net that is 4ft x 6ft with some of the strongest athletes in the world shooting a puck this is traveling over 100 mph. With the equation Velocity = Distance * Time, time can be calculated to show how long the goalie has to react. Most shots are taken from the blue line and in, a distance of 64 feet and less. So assuming the average slap shot is around 100 mph, goalies have only 0.44 seconds and less to make a save, now that is impressive!
