Does time slow down as you reach light speed (Special relativity)?

Einstein’s idea of special relativity is all about what is relative and what is absolute regarding time, space, and motion. Special relativity has made physicists re-think concepts of time and space.

The movie ‘Planet of the Apes’ is a good example of how Einstein’s theory of special relativity can apply to space travel. In the film, the astronauts have been traveling for one-and-a-half years in their frame of reference; meanwhile 2000 years have elapsed on Earth. The earth was invaded by apes when the astronauts returned to the earth. Of course this is science fiction. However, Einstein reasoned that the amount of time that passes between events depends on the frame of reference from which you observe them.

According to special relativity, if the object gets close enough to the speed of light then time dilation starts. Time dilation can be expressed as follows:

Solve for t (Earth time)

We just proved that is theoretically possible to get places quickly in your spaceship if you travel close enough to the speed of the light. When you arrive at your destination you will hardly be able to believe on what year it is. Your children may be older than you when you get back. This is just theory (fiction) because no human device can reach or get near the speed of the light. Maybe someday it maybe become possible to time travel.
