The
Follow Though
The follow
through is just as important as any other
part of the slapshot. The way that the
follow through is executed determines
whether the puck stays low on the ice or
lifts off. Lifting the puck with a slapshot
is much easier than keeping it on the
ice.
When one makes
a slapshot with a simple twist of the wrist
decides whether the puck lifts off or
not. When the stick connects with the
puck but the blade of the stick is left
open, meaning the curve is up, the puck will
lift off the ice. The higher the stick
is brought off the ice the higher the puck
will fly. The hockey stick actually
works like the sights on a gun. where
the stick points the puck goes. This
is how the players such as Chara and Gretzky
were able to be so accurate with their
shots.
Also the
follow through also allows the continued
motion of the body and stick. By
attempting to slow or stop the motion of the
hockey stick it will take velocity and force
from the puck slowing the shot. By
continuing the shot through the full arc of
the arms it ensures that the maximum amount
of force is applied during the impulse
between the stick and the puck.
