The Physics of a Slapshot

One of the classic shots in hockey today is the slapshot.  The iconic shot where the player winds up, brings their stick down and lets the puck fly.  It is one of the fastest and hardest shot in the game. The current record is 108.8 mph set by Zdeno Chara in 2012. The slapshot, fundamentally, is an elastic where the kinetic energy and the momentum of the stick is transferred to the puck.
