The above diagram shows the forces mentioned in prior sections as they are applied to different areas of the bow at full draw. The bow is in static equilibrium because it is not accelerating, ie held in place by the archer and internal forces. When the archer no longer applies the vertical and horizontal forces at joint 2 the bow will leave static equilibrium. More on this in The Bow: Post Release.

In the diagram for this discussion I am lumping the mass of the arrow into the bow for a more complete breakdown the components of its weight should be found at each joint 4 and 2. Below is a diagram showing the approximate force due to gravity for the entire system of the bow, separate from the above for clarity.
