Introduction

There are many ancient civilizations that have exited and flourished from around

3600BC to 500BC. Some of these civilizations include the Sumerian civilization, the

ancient Egypt civilization, the Babylonian Empire, and the Roman Empire. All these

civilizations were unique in their practices and had special cultures which they

observed and paid a great deal of respect to. These civilizations in their practices

reviewed to modern civilization through writings and signs important facts about our

planetary systems. These aforementioned ancient civilizations had knowledge about

cosmology and attempted to give interpretation about these cosmic activities by

putting them into drawings on monuments they built during their time of existence.

Among these ancient civilizations, the Mayan civilization stands tall and had a very

good understanding about how our planetary systems work and continued to create

calendars to mark some of these important cosmic activities that occur in our

universe. In fact, the Mayan are known for their phenomenally accurate, complex,

calculations of the orbits of stars, planets and moon, and precise reckoning of the

solstices and eclipses. What is intriguing is that the Mayan people did not have any

cultural activities and other important days of celebration and yet were able to predict one of the most important

cosmic alignment of the sun and the Milky Way. The purpose of this article is to examine the lives of the people of

ancient Maya civilization and to explore the science and physics behind their culture and activities.
