The first thing to consider is the fuel we use to run a wood stove, i.e. wood. There are two different general categories of wood, hardwood and softwood, and then there are many different species of wood that fall under these categories. For these purposes though we will simply talk about the general properties of wood. First we will look at what wood is made of, then where wood gets its energy, and finally how wood transfers that energy.
