How a Modern Engine Works
- Most SUV's, trucks, supercars, and race cars use perhaps one of the most commonly engine configurations, the V8. 8 four stroke cylinders, four on each side, placed staggered 90 degrees relative to each side.
- Each cylinder is timed so that there is only one firing at a time. Each stroke helps to turn the crankshaft, which turns the linear motion of the pistons into rotational motion which in turn helps to move the car.
- At the same time the crankshaft is connected to the drive belt which is connected to alternator which helps to power the vehicle.
