The Veyron uses a mid engine four wheel drive configuration. A mid
engine is popular in sports cars because it puts the weight of the
engine on the rear wheels where most of the power is applied. The
engine in all Veyrons are made entirely of aluminum and magnesium for
the lowest weight possible. The SS includes improvements that go beyond
a more aerodynamic shape and engine improvements. The most notable of
these are a tightened suspension and an all carbon fiber body. |

Carbon fiber is know for being lightweight with a high strength.
Bugatti built the body and interior finish entirely of carbon fiber.
This combined with the aluminum engine help make the Veyron as
lightweight as a fully featured supercar can be. A lower weight reduces
the force needed for acceleration (F=ma) and the breaking needed to
slow down by reducing momentum (P=mv). The lower weight and improved
suspension lets the SS brake later into a corner, turn harder through
it, and accelerate faster out of the coner.
