JET ENGINES
Turboshaft Engine
A turboshaft engine runs much like a turboprop system without the propellor. Rather this engine provides the power for a helicopter rotor. A helicopter creates a vertical thrust because the speed of the rotor is independent of the rotating speed of the gas generator. So the rotor speed may be kept constant if necessary, while the generator speed is varied to This permits the rotor speed to be kept constant even when the speed of the generator is varied in order to adjust the amount of power produced. The figure below illustrates the design of a turboshaft engine.
