What is Music?

Music is a beautiful thing that can bring a rise to just about any emotion inside you, but what is it?  Is music just sounds?  What makes it any different from anything else that makes noise such as a tree falling, car engine, nails on a chalkboard.  Accroding to Dictionary.com music is "the tones or sounds employed, occurring in single line (melody) or multiple lines (harmony), and sounded or to be sounded by one or more voices or instruments, or both." (Dictionary.com) 

So music is so much more than noise.  It is the compostion of harmony and melody that pleases us.  Kinda wierd how certain soundwaves when combined will evoke and emotion within us.... after all they are just soundwaves, but what are soundwaves?
