A Giant
z.about.com
A giant is a
trick preformed on the uneven bars that is a essentially a backward
giant circle It is preformed on the high uneven bar and used to
generate angular momentum so that gymnasts can preform release and
regrasp skills on the bars. Considering the gymnast a a pendulum
of variable length, increasing and decreasing the length at optimum
angles during the swing allow energy to be gained by the gymnast.
The magnitude (weight) and location (shoulders, waist, and ankles) of
the load while performing the giant influences the whole swing, so the
gymnast must stay tight and have the same timing of changing lengths
throughout the whole trick to allow for a great execution.
