Physics of Tires/Roads
Below is an figure portraying the forces applied from the engine, down to the wheel. The higher the engine's energy output, the higher the rotational acceleration that will occur on the wheel. Horse power (hp), is the rate at which work is done. Vehicles accelerations are often determined by their power to weight ratio. This higher power to weight ratio, the faster the vehicle can accelerate. Past a certain threshold, the power of a vehicles becomes so high that it's almost more dangerous to drive slowly; the vehicle has so much power that at low speeds its hard to keep it from spinning out.
